Mexico outbreak of Swine Flu

Swine Flu, or also known as the pig flu has affected more than 1,000 cases in Mexico, where President Felipe Calderon yesterday declared an emergency. Mexico has closed schools and suspended public events to avoid large crowds where the swine virus might spread.

The Atlanta-based agency of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has confirmed 11 cases of swine flu in USA reported as of April 25, 2009. These 11 mild swine flu cases were reported in California, Kansas & Texas, while at least 8 students in New York are being tested for whether they match the Mexico strain, health officials stated.

The World Health Organization called the swine flu outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern”, and as many as 81 deaths in Mexico were linked to the virus, normally transmitted among pigs.
